Our tale begins with a family of dire wolves of unique ability. One particular of their kind, known to the commoners as Lost, brought together a group of wolves and so named them Vanity of Blood collectively. None were truly aware of what was to unfold for them. They took residence in a den in the Alaskan Woodlands and quietly prospered for some time. It wasn't until a white winged wolf by the name of Halcyon came to them that something strange began to unfold. Lost accepted Halcyon immediately and she began to hold herself high in his graces. Little did she know she was preparing herself for a journey that would eventually lead to her death.
One night, while wolves were scattered about the den, silent in the slumber, Halcyon awoke to see Lost leaving the den. She thought nothing of it and simply fell back to sleep. It wasn't until she awoke again to an absolute panic that she realized what she'd witnessed - Lost and his mate had abandoned them. There were search parties carried out over a series of days, but no trace of them could be found. The worried and discouraged group turned to Halcyon for guidance, and so it was that Halcyon was dubbed the new alpha of Vanity of Blood.
The pack prospered under the reign of Halcyon, new members finding their way into the fold of then den frequently. The pack took on a male known as Korth, who was quickly promoted to Delta, under Hal's most trusted friend, Secu - her Beta. Secu was the first to truly accept Halcyon as a member when everyone else was a little reserved to her diplomatic and non-confrontational manner.
It came time that Halcyon was to take a mate, but she was not ready to share her position with any male. So it was that the alpha of an allied pack, Spinkick, mated with Halcyon and denounced them as his offspring. Halcyon was happy, with pups on the way and a flourishing pack. This happiness, however, was not to last.
One night, while Halcyon was visiting another allied pack, disaster struck. Their den was attacked by a large male known as Nakisai. He cornered, threatened, and enslaved the remaining members of Vanity of Blood. When Halcyon discovered the den; to her horror, she witnessed Sazumi, a fairly new member, already pledging her devotion to Nakisai. It was then that Nakisai ordered the death of poor, very pregnant Halcyon...and so her reign came to an end.
A few years went by before the name Vanity of Blood would reappear in the ears of the wolves of Alaska. Another white female, known Impulsive, was a sibling and a littermate of Halcyon. They had been estranged since they had left puphood, but upon hearing of the death of her sister, Impulsive took it upon herself to regain the splendor of her sister's beloved family. She and Secu banded together, Impulsive took Steeltael as her mate, and the pack prospered yet again. This would be short-lived, for the deforestation of their homeland would drive them out and Impulsive died from an unknown illness and starvation, leaving behind her and Steel's only living daughter, Ashtray.
Ashtray carried the name with her for most of her life. She was not the same loving alpha that her mother and aunt were. She was bitter, skittish, and a survivalist. It wasn't until she came upon a new friend that the burden of her birthpack would finally come off her shoulders.
Antipathy was never one to bow to another. Ash knew that well about her friend, who refused allegiance to her. So, they struck a deal - Anti would take Vanity of Blood and Ash could live the life she wanted on her own. Anti knew of a fenrir she'd come in contact with, whose passion and leadership struck her as useful. So, she sought out this wolf, who happened to refer to himself as Vanity, and the journey begins again...
Will they prosper once and for all? Or is the name Vanity of Blood forever cursed?
